The Spanish Peaks International Celtic Music Festival takes place in Huerfano (Spanish for “orphan”, pronounced ‘where-fan-o’) County in southern Colorado, with events scheduled in Gardner, Walsenburg and La Veta.
Walsenburg is on I-25, 165 miles south of Denver and 90 miles south of Colorado Springs, and 300 miles north of Albuquerque, NM. Gardner is 25 miles west of Walsenburg on Highway 69; and La Veta is 15 miles west of Walsenburg off Highway 160, on Highway 12.
The closest airports to Walsenburg are Colorado Springs (COS)—95 miles, and Denver (DIA)--180 miles; rental cars are available at both airports. There is a bus station in Walsenburg serviced by Greyhound (1-800-531-5332 or 719-531-5332).
Weather
We are in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains and the altitude for the Festival sites ranges from approximately 6,000 to 8000 feet. We recommend you bring clothing for everything from cold and rainy to hot and sunny. As we say in Colorado—“if you don’t like the weather, wait a few minutes.”
