Concerts

Thursday Evening:  This traditional start to the festival features all the weekend artists. Seating limited at this venue in Gardner.

Friday Night: The concert at Walsenburg’s Fox Theater is a double bill. It opens with the South American music of world renowned harpist Alfredo Rolando Ortiz and is followed by an ”Irish Bash” featuring uilleann piper Jerry O’Sullivan, Irish harper Aine Minogue and the multi-instrumentalist and singer, Kevin McElroy.

Saturday Afternoon: A FREE Celtic rock concert with Scotland’s Ceilidh Peppers Band followed by ceilidh dancing for everyone.

Saturday Night: An Irish hooli hoo at the Fox featuring Liz Carroll, referred to by critics as today’s most exciting exponent of the Irish fiddle.  Performing with her are old favorites of Celtic Coloradoans, Shannon and Matt Heaton and Irish step dancer Kieran JordanJerry O’Sullivan, long time friend and musical cohort of these artists, will be joining in the night’s fun.

Sunday Afternoon: The finale is a Scottish concert at the Fox.  As has become the custom with this concert, it is planned around a specific theme.  This year’s is especially relevant for Southern Colorado. “Coal Mining’s Heyday” will compare mining life here and in Scotland from late 1800’s to the 1950’s through shared songs, music, dance and stories.  Scottish singer Ed Miller and American singer Jennie McAvoy  will take the lead along with Scottish harper / singer Patsy Seddon of The Poozies fame.  They will be joined by one of our regular Scottish songsters Alison Bell and local Celtic favorites Kim McKee and Ken Willson.  Also local, actress Betty Brown and her partner Bill Williams backed by Scottish harper Heather Yule will take the stage.  The Ceilidh Peppers will be back in action, and if you are not careful, Scottish dance caller Annabel Oates might just have you joining in a barn dance.  Local singers with mining connections will also take part. Definitely this is a one-of action-packed concert not to be missed!
