Harp and Story

Learn how to tell a story with your harp. Master storyteller, Heather Yule, will demonstrate this skill and show you how to use various techniques to enhance a story.  Bring a story you wish to tell and develop it under Heather’s tutelage.  This is a 3 hour workshop and each participant will have time to work on their story with Heather.

Robert Burns, Social Activist?
Do you think of Burns as the 18th century "Elvis the Pelvis" or just the man who wrote Auld Lang Syne? There's lots of love lyrics to be sure, but a closer look  shows his social  and political activism to be more like our Bob Dylan.  Michele will present the real reason Burns is loved the world over: This man, who wrote "Parcel of Rogues", the "Slaves Lament", "A Man's a Man", and other social activist lyrics, believed in a brotherhood of man, something we're still working on today. This workshop will present Burns' songs in the context of political and social revolution and show the real "Poet Laureate" of Scotland.

A Few Silly Scots Songs
In this half hour workshop, Michele will present the relationship between some well known Scottish songs -- something you may not have noticed!  Scots give us "hopscotch" and "jump rope" jingles, so how does this relate to the Battle of Sherramuir? Or "Ca' the Yowes" and "Cutting Bracken"?  And if we have time, some favorite silly songs, "Kate Dalrymple" and "Maids When You're Young".

A Tool Kit to Find your Inner Music
Our Took Kit will include an introduction to some basics of music, such as chord construction and usage, and sneaky ways to encourage and evoke your creativity.  We will create a pathway to the composer within.  Bring your harp and perhaps an image you love.  All levels of music background welcomed.
