Thursday evening traditional opening ceilidh concert:
“A Taste of Things to Come” at Gardner Community Center
A chance to meet our 2010 guest artists and hear a taste of music from all of them in an informal setting where local Gardner folks serve coffee, tea and homemade refreshments.
Friday PM double concert: “The Scots and The Irish”
First concert: Our resident Scottish singer Ed Miller opens our weekend concert series. Appearing with him is one of Scotland’s most accomplished fiddlers and Ed’s long time recording partner, John Taylor. A guaranteed winning combination!
Second concert: We are delighted to announce the return of the duo Maire Ni Chathasaigh, extraordinary Irish harpist, and the equally amazing guitarist, Chris Newman, whose sellout concert took our 2007 festival by storm!
Saturday matinee: “Songs and Sing-Along”
Something new! Like to sing? Know the tunes, but not the words? This year the festival is putting an emphasis on singing and learning a repertoire of popular Scottish and Irish traditional songs. Audience participation in singing, especially choruses, is a major part of folk festivals in Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland. If they can do it in the old country, we can do it too and find out just how much fun it can be.
Ed Miller and Irish songster Mick Bolger joined by Colorado Celts Kim McKee and Ken Willson will run this event. Song sheets will be given out for you to keep so there will be no excuse not to know the songs in 2011 when more favorites will be taught and more song sheets distributed.
Saturday evening “The Shamrock Kitchen Special”
In 2008 a beautiful Irish dancer Kieran Jordan won the hearts of our festival and this year she returns with her own group, “The Kitchen Quartet” comprised of fellow step dancer Shannon Dunne and musicians Sean McClomiskey, button key accordion and Kleek Schrey, fiddle. Joining this line up is America’s premiere Irish Uilleann piper, Jerry O’Sullivan. A lively evening that will have you all wanting to dance in the isles!
Sunday finale matinee concert: Colcannon
We are delighted to have Colorado’s own fantastic and very popular Irish band led by songster Mick Bolger bring our festival to a roaring close. Band members include: Jean Bolger, fiddle; Mike Fitzmaurice, acoustic bass and guitar; Rod Garnett, flutes and fifes; and Brian Mullins, mandolin and guitar.
